James trained in the laboratory from 2009-2011 as a medical student researcher.

During his time in the lab, he was supported by Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation fellowship.

A key research contribution during this period of training was using exome sequencing to discover null alleles at ANGPTL3 as the cause of familial combined hypolipidemia.  This work was published in the N Engl J Med.

James is currently a resident in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
