Which genes contribute to variation in plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the population?

Plasma concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and triglycerides (TG) are heritable risk factors for cardiovascular disease and targets for therapeutic intervention.

The Kathiresan laboratory working with an international group of collaborators has led five genome-wide association studies for plasma lipids.  Results are summarized below.
