Shamsudheen Karuthedath Velarikkal completed MSc in Biotechnology and worked as a research fellow for two years at CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, India, where he worked on various aspects of pathogenomics. He finished his PhD from the same institute by studying genomics of rare genetic disorders in Indian population. During his PhD, he studied various mendelian rare disorders and established an NGS based method for whole mitochondrial sequencing and analysis for precise diagnosis of mitochondrial inherited disorders. His PhD also involved establishing India’s largest clinical and research collaboratory network, the Genomics for Understanding Rare Diseases – India Alliance Network (GUaRDIAN), to study genetic disorders in Indian population. He is interested in clinical translation of genetic information using highthrouput approaches especial in coronary artery disorders.
